Not all photowalks are created equal. We have technical photowalks that are more involved and require more individual attention. We cap these tours at six people, sometimes four, to ensure you get the most amount of attention.
Creative photowalks focus on composition and creativity, and involve less playing with buttons and dials. This means we can invite more people, and charge less per person!
Private tours are more expensive due to the level of customization, flexibility of hours and location, and absence of other people.

The best thing to do is email us and we can gladly switch one tour for another, provided no one has registered for the photowalk yet.
Enter the code listed on the gift certificate in the “Discount/E-Certificate Code” field on the second page of the registration process. It is at the bottom of the page and follows your name and address information. If the amount of the gift certificate doesn’t cover your purchase, you will be required to enter payment information to cover the remainder of the purchase.
It depends. If your card is from North America, you will not be charged any additional fees. If you are booking with a credit card that is from any country outside North America, you are likely to be charged an exchange rate fee. This will show up as coming from Vancouver Photowalks, but it is actually a bank fee. In the event of a refund request, this fee is not able to be refunded to you from us.
People come with different levels of photography experience, but our small class sizes mean we can customize the instruction to your level. Classes are structured so that we try and group people at similar skill levels based on the class description. It is your responsibility to choose the class you feel would best suit your level.
We can customize your photo walk for your group, whether it’s a bridal shower, a family outing, or corporate event. We recommend a maximum of six people per instructor, but can accommodate up to 10 people per photo walk, depending on the subject matter and location. The best thing is to contact us for a quote.
Easy! Click on the Book Now link and take a look at our calendar of photowalks. Select one that is at a time and location that works for you and follow the steps to sign up. We do take payment upon reservation in order to secure your spot in the tour; however, you may obtain a full refund up to 48 hours prior to the photowalk.
We gladly issue full refunds with a 48 hour cancellation notice. Cancellations or changes within the 48 hours prior are non-refundable. If a photowalk is canceled by the tour guide due to weather or low registration, you will receive a full refund or credit for a future photowalk, whatever your preference.
*Cameras available for rent for $20. However, you will be responsible for any damages that may occur to any rented equipment during your photowalk.
A dSLR digital camera is all you need; if you’d like, bring as many as you can carry! We also have cameras available that you can rent for an additional cost of $20. Any camera with “manual settings” will work. If you have an M,A,S & P on your camera somewhere, it will work. We can cater classes for people with point and shoot cameras which you would also be able to bring a dSLR to, but the focus is primarily on the options point and shoot cameras have available. All classes are suitable for beginners! While you can also use your smartphone, we don’t recommend it for most of our tours.
If your photowalk is taking place at night, a tripod is necessary. Tripods are available for rent for $10 – just let us know in advance! Dress appropriately for the weather, as we will be outside for the most part.
Instructors will be snapping candids and group shots during your photo walk, in addition to performing and demonstrating the exercises for each element. You can find these images uploaded within a couple of days on our Vancouver Photowalks Flickr Page. Each set is named by the date and location of the photowalk. You will be provided access to this gallery via email after your photowalk so you can upload your own images to the set, and either get feedback or show off your amazing new photography skills!
You can also upload your photos to our Facebook page, so be sure to follow us to see your fellow photowalkers’ images! If you take any mobile pictures on your photowalk, feel free to post them on Instagram and tag us at @vancouverphotowalks.
Our photowalks are suitable for people of all activity levels. We stop frequently for photo ops and go slowly so you can enjoy the scenery and practice what you’ve learned at your own pace. We don’t end up walking that far since there is much to be learned in the tour.
Our photowalks begin from different locations. You must check your booking confirmation if you forget which photowalk you signed up for. In our booking calendar, we have maps to the location for each photowalk.
All photo walks last for two hours. You may have questions at the end of the class, or if we are going to a location you think you may want to spend more time at, please allow extra time in your schedule or parking meter to enjoy some time after the photowalk. Parking can sometimes be a challenge downtown Vancouver and on Granville Island, so we advise taking public transit if possible, or finding a parkade where you can stay for more than two hours to minimize stress.
We photograph in light rain. In the event that there is a weather cancellation, we will do our best to contact you given that you have provided us with your contact information for the day of the photowalk. If, however, you are unsure, feel free to call or text 604.318.1277 to see if the photowalk is still running. Check the Vancouver weather forecast here. In some cases your photowalk confirmation email will contain the name and phone number of your photo-guide. This is who you can contact if there is a concern prior to the photowalk.
